The Department of History at Macalester College foresees a growing interest of students and faculty to produce digital history projects. The discipline of history seeks to investigate events and cultures of the past by focusing on specific historical eras, particular geographic areas, and compelling thematic issues. It uses a wide range of written, visual, oral, and material evidence as the basis for constructing contemporary accounts about the past.
Adding digital tools and technology to the study of history augments learning, research, and publication. There is no set definition of digital history. Its tools and methods transcend historical fields. It does not replace traditional lines of historical inquiry, rather it opens up new answers.
We are excited to take our students with us as we experiment with new pedagogical and research methods in the 21st century classroom.
